Miss Basketball Showcase
2007 National Champions

The 2007 Miss Basketball Showcase featured 64 prep girl's all-star teams from 17 states. IBCA Iowa Select I finished 8-0, winning their pool and five tournament games to claim the title. Congratulations to Coach Adam DeJoode and these players and all who participated for a job well done! The following article is from the July 16 issue of the Kearney Hub newspaper.

KEARNEY — IBCA Iowa Select I’s defense got it to the championship game of the Miss Basketball Showcase, and defense brought IBCA Iowa Select I the Miss Basketball championship.

Iowa overcame a crummy start to the second half and Pinnacle Bank Nebraska I’s homecourt advantage to win the Miss Basketball title with a 47-38 win Sunday at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Health and Sports Center.

The victory is the first for a team from the state of Iowa in the 12 years of the tournament.

Iowa’s defense held a Pinnacle Bank team that averaged 57 points a game in its previous four tournament games to 38 points on 32 percent (14 of 44) shooting. Nebraska shot just 29 percent in the first half while falling behind 24-15.

But Iowa started the second half ice cold, hitting just two of its first 14 shots as Nebraska used a 7-0 run to retake the lead.

Nebraska, though, couldn’t pull away, and Iowa started to heat up. IBCA hit seven of its last eight shots, using an 11-1 run midway through the second half to go in front for good. Nebraska went scoreless for the game’s final 2:41.

Iowa gave up more than 50 points just once in three pool play games and five tournament games over the weekend. Only Oklahoma Select was able to crack the 50-point barrier (a 66-54 Iowa win in the semifinals).

Kelly Krei led Iowa with 16 points and six rebounds, scoring 11 points in the second half. Indy Uhlenhopp scored nine of her 13 point in the first half and finished 6 of 7 from the field.

Shelly Martin was the only Nebraska player in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Kelsey Newmann had nine points, and Jordan Hooper finished with four points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
